Photoshop Shortcuts Actions Tutorial

A little quickie post with a tip that you might not know about.

Ever want to undo several steps you’ve just done in Photoshop in a quick and easy way. Here’s is a handy shortcut to do just that. We all know that you can hit Command (Control for you PC users) + Z to undo. But this simply undoes that last action you did, and hitting it again reverses it back again. If you want to undo more than just the last step you made, you can step back through your History palette (if you don’t see it you can open it under the Window menu) by pressing Command-Option-Z (PC: Control-Alt-Z) a few times. Each time you hit the keys for this shortcut it goes back one more step in history.

In Elements, things work a little differently. Your Command-Z (PC: Control-Z) is a shortcut to multiple undos … keep hitting those keys to step back in history multiple times. If you want to Redo something you’ve just Undone, hit Command-Y (PC: Control-Y).

Now if someone could just figure out how to apply that Undo shortcut to real life situations we’d be all set! Eat too much ice cream? Undo! Get stuck in traffic because you picked the wrong route? Undo! 😉

Learning your shortcuts in Photoshop is an invaluable way to speed up your workflow and make editing faster and more fun.

  1. Thanks for the quick tip! You aren’t kidding about applying the undo button to real life. I usually THINK “control+Z” when I pass my exit. Too bad that doesn’t work.

  2. Thank you so much for the tips. I’m just learning Photoshop. I love your blog!
