Little Girls, Horses and Golden Light – A Photo Session | Paint the Moon Photoshop Actions
All images processed with Paint the Moon actions from Picture Perfect, Fresh Wonderland 2 and something new coming up.
As soon as we hit the barn Miss E. is ready to ride … she actually cries if she can’t sit on Miss Scout first. And when it comes time to take turns and let mommy or big sis have a ride she does everything in her power to get back on there. You can see she picks up the mounting stool as soon as we start leading our horse to the arena … and then proceeds to chase her around carrying the stool, making it obvious she’s ready for her turn. Note that she’s a lot farther away (and perfectly safe) from the horse than it appears in the photos. When that fails, she’ll usually give up and resort to digging in the dirt.
Adeline on Miss Scout is on the left, and to the right we have a little mini horse that comes to play at our barn once in awhile. He’s a teeny tiny little guy!
And the girls adore giving treats of all kinds to Miss Scout … favorites are carrots, peppermints and her special oat horse cookies.
This is one of Miss Scout’s pasture mates who was calling out to her as she walked by. “Come back and play with me!!”
Now these images are my reply to all the questions I get such as, “How do your girls always look so picture perfect all the time?” They don’t!! They love the dirt and during the summer come inside at the end of the day with black feet and little bodies covered in dirt and little girl sweat. So, here is evidence of my not so pristine baby digging in the dirt (and, yes, even eating some as seen around her tiny lips). And another one of Miss E. brushing her horse with her nana – grooming our horse is one of the best parts about being at the barn.
Looks great – love seeing your girls with their horse. I had a horse growing up, wish I had one for my little one now 🙂
Your pictures tell such a beautiful story. Of course having such beautiful models doesn’t hurt 🙂 I love, love, love the one where your horse absolutely knows your taking photos and looks directly at you while running the fence line.
I just love your work. It is so beautiful. The girls, the lighting – everything. My dad was a photographer and he took millions of photos of me. He is not with me today, but I would love to make memories with him and with my boys like you do for your girls. You have so much beauty inside you and all around.
I became a huge fan of yours a few years back and can I just say that your pictures amaze me! In all honesty, every time someone asks me what I want to my life to be like, your family, photography and just overall outlook come straight to my mind! I will be a fan for years to come. <3
Oh how lovely! The little lambs ear hat is adorable! (As well as your youngest and that mounting stool!) Miss Scout looks like a sweetheart, and you can see why your daughters love her so. (I’d have to agree grooming is one of the best parts of the barn.) ~ May I ask what lens you are using for these?
I am in love with these pictures. I LOVE the ones of Eloza chasing the horse 🙂 So cute. I also love the one with the two girls hugging the beautiful horse. LOVE!!!
My girls ride weekly and get training in Junction City. We love horses. I just love your horse photos and you girls are adorable!
Beautiful photo’s Annie!!
The site worked wonderfully for me. The images are amazing. I especially like the one which shows the girls on the horse from a distance. You really get a sense of how small they are in contrast. Ps- My little girl loves to get dirty too, we wouldn’t have it any other way!
These are gorgeous as always! Those horses are just beautiful but not as beautiful as your little girls! These pics are just too sweet! By the way I’m following you on PInterest and I’m off to check out Facebook!
Enjoying the photos as combining several of my passions, photography, children and horses! Can you tell me the breeding of your mare, looks Arab/paint… but is there Standardbred in there?….just looking at the way she stands.
Thank you so much, Michelle! She’s actually a Pinto American Saddlebred. 🙂 And, yes, she loves parking out whenever she stands for a break. 🙂
your pictures are so amazing, inspiring and magical! love the horses & your beautiful girls 🙂

These are soooo beautiful! And every little girl needs to love a horse too!
Annie, this is one of the most beautiful set of images I have EVER seen you post. It brought a tear to my eye. Your work gives me inspiration to try and photograph my granddaughter as beautifully as you capture your daughters…THANK YOU!!
A friend showed me these pictures, and I have since revisited them every other day just about. I love everything about them! Beautiful!!
Beautiful!
These are just amazing..love the lighting and the moments captured!
These photos are gorgeous! You guys are lucky to have such an amazing horse. If you don’t mind my asking, are you planning on doing a post about the vacation you took a while back? The snippets you showed on facebook made wherever you went look like an interesting and beautiful place!
Beautiful photos 😀 I love horses myself, but you just made them look all the more awesome 🙂
Annie – these are gorgeous! Would you mind sharing what lens you used for the horse shots? I have a session tomorrow and would love to know what you recommend 🙂 Thank you!
Thank you so much! I used my Nikon 85mm 1.4G lens for all of these shots. 🙂 Good luck!
Hi Annie,
These images are just breathtaking! You truly have an amazing talent 🙂
Would you mind sharing which actions you used for these?
Thanks <3

Thanks for writing this. Quick query, if you wouldn’t mind. Where did you get your weblog template? I will be establishing a blogging site and much like yers.
Your photos are beautiful. What a great day this must have been!
I am always amazed by your pictures. I’m not an outdoorsy person but after looking at these pictures I want a horse! You photos are magnificent. It helps that your girls are breathtaking but beyond that they always tell a story. You are an inspiration. Thank you for sharing!
